About Us
Audio Library and Resource Center, Nepal (ALRC-Nepal) is dedicated to advocating for the educational rights of persons with disabilities, particularly those who are blind or visually impaired. Established in 2019, ALRC-Nepal is a registered non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization. It is officially registered with the District Administration Office in Kathmandu and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council.

Despite existing laws and policies, visually impaired individuals and those with print disabilities continue to face discrimination in education, employment, and society. Many lack access to quality educational resources and professional opportunities. ALRC-Nepal is committed to bridging this gap by supporting, advocating, and raising awareness in alignment with national policies and international declarations on disability rights, including those set by the United Nations.

Since 2019, ALRC-Nepal has been producing and distributing audio textbooks and other educational materials from school to postgraduate levels. To date, we have produced over 3,500 audiobooks using various technologies. However, the demand for accessible educational resources continues to grow, highlighting the need for ongoing support and funding.

Accessible technology plays a crucial role in making education more inclusive for visually impaired students. ALRC-Nepal promotes and utilizes accessible digital tools to enhance learning opportunities, ensuring that individuals with visual impairments have equal access to information and education.

While Nepal’s constitution prioritizes Braille for academic use, its production remains costly, bulky, and difficult to transport. In contrast, audio materials are cost-effective, durable, and easy to distribute, making them a practical alternative for visually impaired learners.

ALRC-Nepal envisions a barrier-free environment where persons with disabilities can live with dignity, independence, and respect. We mobilize existing resources and partnerships to achieve this goal. Our key partners include the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens; the Ministry of Social Development, Bagmati Province; Kirtipur Municipality; Kathmandu Metropolitan City; and the Planet of Kids Foundation. We also collaborate with local government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations (CBOs).

ALRC-Nepal funds its initiatives through grants, donations, individual contributions, and membership fees. In addition to producing educational materials, we conduct awareness campaigns, research, advocacy programs, seminars, training sessions, and other initiatives to support the rights and development of visually impaired individuals in Nepal.
